We write January 2, 2005. What can a man do start a new year good? Well, I bought myself a splitbus. :-D

The splitty was torn apart and was sitting for about 10 years. Time to finish it or should I say time to get the bus rolling on the road again?

The plans changed a little bit over the years, but now it is completely clear which modification this bus will get. Here are some some of them:
  • Type 4 engine, 2.2 Liter
  • Porsche 914 gearbox
  • IRS conversation, with 1303 brake drums
  • at front Porsche 944 brakes
  • suspension: coilovers around
  • ragtop
  • T2 fuel tank

This is what it looked like when I bought it:

Our daughters hardly can wait for the bus to be finished.

Someone else did some rust repair on the front floor, but i have to do it all over. The rusty dog leg did not survive either.

After removing the dog leg I could see more rust that was repaired. I have to do that over too because it doesn't meet my standards! Time to clean this thing up a little bit.

Did I mention I like cleaning? No? Good, because I don't.
But I do like bare metal!

I took the front beam off, this is where some of my plans changed. In fact the time schedule was a little bit longer then it used to be. Today there is no schedule. :-)

I like bare metal, but everything needs a little protection.

The bus is going to have a 2.2 liter engine as you read in the opening post. To stop this splitbus there will be different brakes other then the standard brakedrums. They are going to be Porsche 944NA discbrakes in the front and therefore I'm going to need different wheels because the Empi 5 spoke is not going to fit anymore.

The wheels are 17" Porsche CupII: front 7J, rear 8J.
