Back in time, 1994, I drove a black Golf MK1. On the highway it got an other look; it was damaged at front because of an accident. The Nissan Patrol I hit crusted my Golf. Time to buy an other car, a bug! But it had some work... Hell no, it had a lot of work! It took 7 years to finish this project. In the mean time I had drove some other cars. ;)

This is how it looked like when I bought my Super. Factory color yellow, after some maintenance it was colored red. Finally someone decided to paint everything black, I mean everything but the head and taillights. :-?

After tearing this bug apart it showed how bad it really was. The body was welded on the chassis with a L-profile. I took some time to separate them. After some minor welding on the chassis it was sandblasted and coated.

Time to build it up again. I mounted two adjustable struts at front. Cleaned the gearbox at put it back on place. All brake parts were replace by new parts! All but the brake pedal. :-D

You are wondering why I mentioned this Super was in really bad condition? The chassis looked not that bad right? But look at the body:  Where possible I replaced whole panels.

All the parts from the body which 'touch' the chassis is replace because of rust damage. After all the welding was done I but the chassis body back on the chassis to fit. You never know. ;-)

Shocked from the above? Well, this will cheer you up. The body when back from the sandblasting looks a lot better. Now the fun starts.

Or, like a commercial, before and after:

A colleague gave me a hand by making this a smooth beetle again. It took 1½ weeks (evenings and Saturdays) before we were happy with the result. Time for some final paint on this Super!

Remember my openings post? I had a black Golf and that's the color my beetle should have! An uncle of my wife did a nice job! All parts were colored separately. Building it up should be done with care.

After many years the body and chassis were reunited again! Reinstalling wiring is my favorite hobby, but only when it does work. And it did. ;-)

Some interior work had to be done too. And of course checking if the wirering really did what it should do by mounting the head and taillights. Kind of weird engine in the back, oh shoot, that's me!

When I bought this Super there was a 1300cc enging in it. I replaced it by a 1584cc engine. That engine was imported from America and all the parts for the heater were missing. Probably they didn't need any heating, but I do! :-D From the two engines I made one with all the parts needed.
